Day 35—Wood Mountain to Moose Creek (Oxbow), Saskatchewan

Today we took the lower HWY 18 for a while, then headed north when we were running out of gas. We had to use the reserve tank (that means we were really empty!), but eventually made it to a town (Weyburn) with gas that was open on Sunday, and was NOT cardlock. That was the problem in the south in the small towns. Everything was closed, or cardlocked. We did have a great breakfast at a small café in Rockglen, which was serving Sunday after church coffee as well.

As we moved north, the land got flatter and the wind picked up. The fields are extremely flooded, and sometimes the train tracks (and road) are only inches above the water level. Luckily, we didn’t get any rain today, but lots of bug splatter on our visors, windshield, and all over the bike and bags. They have been getting tons of rain, and the lake we are camping on today is extremely high, with the beach and islands being lost under the rising water.

Most people we talk to seem to think it is a good thing, as long as the roads stay open!

We headed back down south after Weyburn, gas, and getting more brake/clutch fluid for the bike. It is much nicer, and less windy in the south, so we think we will stick along these roads for now. Even though we are back on the 18, it is much wider and seems much busier on this side of the province than what we went through yesterday. Off to Manitoba tomorrow, and maybe a hotel in Winnipeg!
